Did you know all Sondera 1974 leather goods are made from vegetable-tanned leather? Not to be confused with vegan leather…man-made alternatives crafted from plastics, cork, or even pineapple and mushroom fibers, my leather is entirely natural, sourced from ethically tanned animal hides.
Why Vegetable Tanning Matters
Vegetable tanning uses tree bark and plant-based tannins instead of toxic chromium or chemical processes. While chrome tanning can happen in a single day, vegetable tanning takes up to two months, creating a leather that’s not only safer for people and the environment but also more beautiful. The slow process results in rich textures and colors that patina beautifully over time, developing character from your life’s journey.
